Everyone in the work place has an off day and it is only normal that you cannot be at your best at all times. However, the most important thing is to try and make the best out of those days.
One way to turn an unproductive day around is to put your to do list in order from the most important to the least important. Start with the task on the top of the list and work your way down. This will complete the most important work that needs to be done and will leave you feeling accomplished at the end of the day.
Try taking a break. If you are having a hard time focusing, a break can never hurt. Go outside and take a walk or call a friend. This short amount of time away from your work may clear your head and leave you feeling refreshed when you come back. Time will be spent much more efficiently. You will be using your time more resourcefully by taking a short break if you are able to come back and complete your work versus being unfocused all day.
Removing all disruptions will make it easier to have a productive day. Putting your phone away and closing the Internet will remove the temptation of creating another distraction. If you work in your own office, you may even want to close the door. Talking with other coworkers will only make completing your work even tougher.
If you are capable of working in a different area, try moving to another office or even going outside. The work environment can make a big difference on how well a person can focus. If you are having a hard time concentrating in the location you are in, find one that fits you more comfortably.
Always remember to stay calm and don’t get too overwhelmed. Feeling overwhelmed and stressed is only going to make the day worse. Instead of looking at all of the tasks you need to complete, try taking one task at a time. Multitasking is not for everyone and can sometimes make the job longer than if you were to complete one assignment at a time. By following these few simple and easy tips, you will turn your down around feeling complete and accomplished.
